Characteristics of carbon fiber
As the name suggests, it not only has the inherent intrinsic characteristics of carbon materials, but also has the soft processability of textile fibers, and is a new generation of reinforcing fibers. Compared with traditional glass fiber (GF), Young's modulus is more than 3 times higher; Compared with Kevlar fiber (KF-49), it not only has about twice the Young's modulus, but also does not swell in organic solvents, acids and alkalis, and has excellent corrosion resistance. Some scholars immersed PAN-based CF in strong alkali NaOH solution in 2, more than 1981 years have passed, and it still maintains its fiber form.
Carbon fiber is an inorganic polymer fiber with a carbon content higher than 90%. Among them, the carbon content is higher than 99% called graphite fiber. Carbon fiber has high axial strength and modulus, no creep, good fatigue resistance, specific thermal and electrical conductivity between non-metal and metal, small thermal expansion coefficient, good corrosion resistance, low fiber density, and good X-ray permeability. However, its impact resistance is poor, easy to damage, oxidation occurs under the action of strong acid, and metal carbonization, carburizing and electrochemical corrosion will occur when compounded with metal. Therefore, carbon fiber must be surface treated before use.
Carbon fiber can be carbonized with polyacrylonitrile fiber, asphalt fiber, viscose wire or phenolic fiber; According to the state, it is divided into filament, staple fiber and chopped fiber; According to the mechanical properties, it is divided into general-purpose type and high-performance type. The general-purpose carbon fiber has a strength of 1000 megapascals (MPa) and a modulus of about 100 GPa. High-performance carbon fibers are divided into high-strength types (strength 2000MPa, modulus 250GPa) and high models (modulus above 300GPa). Strength greater than 4000MPa is also called ultra-high strength type; Modulus greater than 450GPa is called ultra-tall model. With the development of aerospace and aviation industry, high-strength and high-elongation carbon fiber has also appeared, and its elongation is greater than 2%. The large amount is polyacrylonitrile PAN-based carbon fiber.
